Ok fellars since yall seem to have the correct answers I got a question. I slugged the barrel of my 1895 marlin 45-70. Did it three different times and all the slugs were at .457. Now do I call it good and get a .458 sizer die or go to .459? I have read on here to go one or two thousanths bigger, so which do you think I shouyld get?
Thanks

That's not an easy question to answer. Each gun is a law unto itself. I personally always size 001 over groove which have always worked perfect for me. I shoot a lot of .357 and as most if not all commercial molds cast .358 slugs, trying .359 is not really an option for me. All my .357s have grooves between .357 and .358 and so they all shoot very well with .358 boolits.

I'd get the .458 if I were you and see what kind of groups I'd get....

And to futher complicate your life, if your talking Lee products, its been my short experience that they are .1000th smaller then advertised.

Mine is .4595". I use .359" sized boolits and get no leading. It's an Encore Katadin.

Get the .458", if it's too small lap it. If you go the other way, you might end up owning two sizers.

Dang Wayne,
You must put the mother of all crimps on that to keep it in the case!! Get any leading with one hundred thousands undersize boolits? lol! I know what you meant but I just had to.;)

The 458 works fine in my marlin, but, I may have to try the 359 thing. [smilie=1:

thanks for the input fellars. I was just curious. Cuz if I were to purchase some cast boolits, the ones I have looked at are sized to .459
