The molds arrived from lee last evening. Really didn't expect them this soon. Fired up the pot and cast a few. Not pleased with the results. Good new first, the gaschecks do seem to fit well. The outer bands are undersize. The lead band is .3115 to .312. Middle and base are .312 to .313. I tried my mold and the spare. Same results on both. I was used WW alloy that I purchased on ebay. A harder alloy might squeek out a bit more but I haven't tried any yet.

I want to try casting some cerrosafe this evening to find out what they did. I feel that even though cast dimensions were given on the print by cashing our check they agreed to all specifications. Lee had my home and work phone # and email. I guess I will prepare to do battle.

Just keeps getting better...

Brian

(if this will work for you then holler otherwise back they go)

I'll take mine as is also. Its a lot closer to what I wanted.

I've never seen a return to LEE produce a better mold, they're usually worse in some way.

Those dimensions will work fine for me; and I see no need for you to go through any extra hassle on my account.
Go ahead and send mine. Zip is Birch Run, MI 48415. Thanks for all your hard work on this group buy.

The Lee molds can be a sore trial and cast smaller than spec more often than not. I doubt if you will get any satisfaction with Lee. On the Fatter 30 we are going to fudge the specs and hope Lee doesn't decide to get it right on this one. The bullets should be spot on for specs and in a worse case scenario we will have another Fat 30 which won't be bad.

If I were you, I would ship em out....Doing battle with Lee over .001 - 002 is a loosing battle. The bullet will do just fine in all but the largest groove barrels. A .312 bullet is plenty for 99.5% of it's uses.

Should work OK for me; if not, I'm on the fatter .30 list too! :) Go ahead and send mine, zip code 28376.

If somebody backs out, I'd be intrested in one of these molds.

Ditto, I was one that wanted the smaller one anyhow.

Send PM if one is availble.

Sounds like the message for the "honchos" dealing with Lee is to specify "big, Bigger, BIGGEST", and settle for what we get - should satisfy 90% of us and the rest can swap them around. Remember, so long as there are nice deep lube grooves (0.008" - 0.010"), we can always size down to what we need (if we remember to lube first, then size). I'm looking forward to "Fat(ter) .30" for my three M-N's, and just sent off my check to Chargar.

You "honchos" are the GREATEST!

I cast a few from cerrosafe last evening. After waiting an hour the 'bullets' were up to size. Looks like the lower two bands are .3135-.315 and the lead band .312-.314. Had .0015 out of round but that could just be the way the cerrosafe cast as I didn't notice it on the bullets. Looks like .003 shrink from mould to WW alloy. .316 to .317 should of put us in the .314 as cast dia.

Talked to Lee today and I am going to send the remaining mould back. I will reccomend that that they be cut to a .317 mould dia.

14 moulds shipped today(friday), lunchtime. You know who you are. ;) The lady at the post office kept going on about how it said 'bullet' on the box. (she was NOT serious) I told her that she could open one up and see that it was just a bar of aluminum with holes in it. She said she didn't know what aluminum was. We had a good laugh until the other lady (probably the one in charge) decided we were having to much of a good time.

Hold Lee to the original specs. Looks a lot like the 454275 mould deal.

Even if they recut the moulds and leave chips behind, we can at least use them for the intended purpose.:Fire:

If any of you guys have a mold which casts too small for you, I'll buy it if it casts around .310" to .312" in ww alloy. In fact, I'll pay $61 which will cover the postage to Zip 71479.

Good news - Moulds arrived today. Grabbed one at random and it cast on average .315 (.3145min / .3157 max) This was ww with tin. Cavities look good - maybe new vs recut?

Bad news - can't ship until thurday. Things are pretty hectic right now and I'll get 'em out as soon as possible. It will be nice to put this to bed.

Thanks for being the Honcho on this deal Brian, now I've a new boolit for the 32 Mag and 30 cal plinkin. all from the same mould
