I was trying out some loads in my MAS 49/56 French rifle today. The bullets were the Lee 312-155, Lyman 31284, and Lyman 324299 all over top 35 grains of Accurate 4350 with a filler. Normally I don't shoot at 50 yards, but these dictated that because I've never shot these loads before, especially with the wide variance in bullet weights. I only chronographed the Lee 155 grain bullets which were doing 1907 fps. Now to describe the target. The three off the black target and the two in the lower region of the 8 n 9 ring were two of the 314299 and one 311284. One also went into the one ragged hole below the two in the 8 n 9 rings. The two in the bullseyes and lower right 9 ring were the 311284. Looks like that load needs to be investigated somemore. Now the ragged hole in the lower left 8 ring is five of the Lee 155 grain and one of the 314299. I had tested 5 Lee 312-155, 5 314299, and 4 311284. Looks like this rifle is a shooter. It has a 1-10.6 twist four groove left hand twist. I used the issued peep sights. I also turned the gas off (I made an adjustable gas valve for it) as I didn't want to hunt my brass in the high grass.

................Looks good so far Joe. A question that's been bugging me for a LONG time, if you don't mind? Is there a reason you can't use one target for each different load? :-)

I've meant to try cast in mine for a bit now. My Mas 36-51 does great with a 311299 and 28.5 gr of 4895. I bet that would operate the gas on the 49/56 as well.

Good shooting.

Plain and simple ole buckeroo, I'm lazy!! ...add cheap too!!! You did notice I shot at the official standard Buckshot 50 yards?

Good to hear from you Rick.

Try the 311414. It shoots great out of mine. If you don't adjust the gas a little they sure throw the brass. I've ran the 311414 out of mine at 2000-2100 FPS and still got 3-4" groups at 100 yds. About 1900 FPS gives the best group. Mark

Yeah I have the adjustable gas valve. I make them and you can't tell the rifle is altered at all. The grenade lever still functions too. The guys over on the French rifle board don't like to modify them so I came up with this unique valve and have been selling them like hot cakes. Today I was out shooting again and the brass only went 3 feet if that.
