By changing the extractor? Is there a better bolt to start with. Is there an easier route?

There's an extractor mention, I believe on the site posted, for use with the PPC head size cases, which the 7.62x39 is. Now to give you a partial answer I recently built a 110 in a secret special caliber and it's head size it about that 7.62x39 and the bolt was for the 308 family size and the extraction is so so.

Sharp Shooter Supply makes both a PPC bolt head and a PPC extractor for the Savage 10/100 series guns which should solve extraction issues. The case will definately have feeding issues but a "benchrest follower" will solve that. Ejection is also a problematic issue.

Also check out Savageshooters.com for a wealth of information on Savage bolt guns.

If it has ANYTHING to do with Savage rifles Fred or his wife will be able to solve your problems. Be patient when you call or e mail as it is a mom and pop business and they want to make you happy so some of the calls can keep the line busy for a whiiiiiile. When you get thru to them you will be happy with the results. Fred can also supply the single shot followers.
