I have a nearly new condition Browning/Miroku 1886 carbine that I have owned for a few years now but have not worked up any cast boolit reloads yet. Are there any recommendations? What has worked well for you? Of course it is 45/70 caliber.

mine does well with a 405 gr. boolit running around 1500 fps., easy on the shooter too.
I use 4198 for this load.

I might try some 405's and see how they do. I have a Lee 340 grain mold around here somewhere and when I get some time I'll cast some of those for comparison.

Mine is the Winchester, although they are basically the same rifle. However mine has the tang safety-which I do not like. But what can you do??

I cast a 405 grain Lyman bullet with 40.0 grains of RL7 and no GC, with Carnuba Red lube. This yields around 1600 fps, and is a very good load. This load shoots well in most of my 45-70's. I like the RL7. RL7 gives good case fill, and burns fairly clean in my rifles. Tom.

I have lots of 45/70 data. If you are short on it I can bring it to work and copy for you if you want.
