Greetings
I am in the process of assembling my 414 Dan Wesson Supermag parts on my 375 SM frame. I am now ready to buy a barrel and thought to get some feedback BEFORE I invest into a barrel and the machine work.
This 414 will be shooting a 265 grain boolit at about 1400fps up to (maybe) 1600 fps. It is a GC design. I might also use the Lee 240 grain design but that is all secondary. The 265 IS the primary projectile.
So what are your twist ideas ? I am thinking 1-18 may be about right....
THANKS !!!!!

It kind of surprised me to read this article on the 414SM...

...and see this:

On my particular gun, the original barrel was an optional laser treated type that had a 1:18.75 twist, which is the industry standard for the 41 Mag. Accuracy was good but I felt it could be better, especially with heavy bullets. I recommended that DW use a 1:14 twist instead. They agreed and in time sent me a new barrel. It was then an easy matter to mount the new tube. Accuracy did improve, and the 1:14 is now the standard twist for the 414.

1:14 seems awfully fast to me. I'm with you-- 1:18 sounds about right if your bullet of choice is 265 grs or more.
