View Full Version : M1 Carbine slide problem

I was firing my M1 Carbine today and after 15 rounds the slide started disengaging from the receiver during the recoil.

The lug on the slide just by the cocking handle seems to be angling slightly away from the receiver so when the rifle cycles and the slide lug reaches the point on the receiver where it can disengage, it just slides right off and loses contact with the bolt.

Any ideas on what is wrong and/or how to fix it?

Thanks!

If the slide is the only part worn I would try swapping with a known good one to see if that stops the problem. If so, a new slide would seem to be the cheapest/quickest solution. If it turns out to be a worn receiver/channel then I would consult a gun smith.

Sounds like the lug on the bottom of the slide is worn to the point that the cocking handle leans away from the reciever.

Or the cocking handle thin section that connects it to the front part is bent.

Try inspecting that slide lug and make sure it is rectangular in shape and not worn.
