7.62x54r. I have a VERY old cast Lyman book that says 23 gr of 2400 for a 150 gr gc. Seems steep, as 16 is @ where 30-06 is. Thanks for the help, greg

I use a Lyman 314299 sized to .312 with 11.5 grains of Unique. It hits the steel Ram at 200 without any trouble. Mike

For fun I use a Lyman 311316 and 5 grains of BA10 for 1090fps. It's a hoot! they always get shot up fast by whoever is at the range.

Greg, the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 3rd Ed. lists a start load of 23.5 grs., 1980 fps. and max. load at 27 grs., 2197 fps. for 2400 powder. The boolit used was #311466 at 151 grs., #2 alloy. You are correct that 16 grs. will probably work better though, 16 grs. being a very good load for most military cartridges with 2400 powder. You may have to tweek it a bit. Slug your barrel first though so that you have a good boolit fit, and go 1 or 2 thousandths oversize...Ray
