I recently purchased a 12" 7TCU bullberry barrel for my contender and need some advice on what mould to get. I would like to hunt deer in Pa. with this boolit as well as do some target shooting. Any and all advice would be very apprecited.

Any load advice would also be very appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm not familiar with the 7 TCU, but you may be into looking at someone like Mountain Molds to do up a custom job. In calibers under 30 finding a suitable big game boolit becomes difficult. If you can find an RCBS 7mm-168FN (special order maybe?) it might work for you. You may need a lighter boolit depending on what the gun will handle. Whatever I got it would have a good flatnose and enough weight to ensure adequate penetration at expected velocity.

I shot the 7mm TCU in IHMSA competition for many years, first with the 145g Speer flat base and 24g of H-322. Velocity was 1799 and SD of 19. I used the same load when I went to the Saeco nominal 145g boolit. Velocity as I recall was in the same area. I tried the Saeco 071 nominal 160g boolit, but it did not shoot as well. The RCBS 7mm-145 worked well also. H-322 is THE powder for this cartridge in my opinion. Hope this helps.--Shuz

Midsouth has a Lee 6-banger "soupcan" mold that several here have tried, with very good reports. It weighs about 130 grains I believe, and with the 6 cavities you can turn them out in a hurry. It should be well suited for Bullberry velocities, especially from a 12" tube.

Thanks for the reply's gentlemen,

Brett -The 7TCU is a .223 case necked up to 7mm and then fire formed to move the shoulder forward and angled to aprox. 40 degrees to use more powder.

lathesmith - I will check midsouth for the soupcan mould , I have read about that mould on here but have never seen what it looks like I'll do a search on here hopefully I can find something.

Midsouth has some but they are low in stock and it's the only custom mould they have in stock at this time.

Randy, if you have trouble finding one of those 7mm soupcan molds send me PM, I may be able to come up with one. It ought to be perfect for the TCU.

Thanks much guys,

I'm going to order one tomorrow or try to anyway.
I work for the state of Pa. Since we don't have a signed budget yet I have not had a paycheck in over a month but they finally passed a bridge buget so we can be paid I'll get my regular pay plus my back pay tomorrow so when I get home from work tomorrow I'll place the order.

lathesmith - If by chance they don't have any tomorrow I'll send you a PM with my info.

Thank you for the help it is greatly appreciated.

You SHOULD be very happy with that "soupcan" in the 7TC/U. It works well in a lot of my 7mm barrels.
