does anyone know the difference between chilled and magnum shot?
why would someone use one over the other? They are both lead.
I know this isn't about casting, but I was just wondering.

Magnum shot is harder ( more antimony ). Chilled shot has less. Magnum shot will deform less when fired and hold a tighter pattern. Chilled shot will deform a little more thus resulting in a more open pattern. This would be better for skeet or closer targets. The only way to find out wich is better for you is to try them both.
Hope I helped

kind of like waterdropped ww's and linotype.
same hardness range just done a different way.
magnum shot usually has 5-6% antimony and chilled has more arsenic but less antimony.
the smaller sizes of magnum shot have more antimony in them than the larger sizes do. the chilled is one recipe.
