newbe to casting, just setting up, should get my pot today:bigsmyl2:

have been looking at the lee 358-158-rf 2 cav mould. I like the look of that boolit!
unfortunatly, midway and grafs have them on forever backorder. Has anyone here tried this boolit / have this mold?

What have your results been with this boolit?

Thanks

This was the first bullet I've cast....and one of the best.

How about removing the bevel base and turning the bullet into a plain base bullet :

I've got some 3/4 inch groups with IMR 4227 & the 158gr RF from a S&W
model 60-10 3 inch barrel shooting inside on a 15 yd test range with
wheel weights & white label lube. I like it a lot.

A great shooting boolit. It's a very easy casting designs, punches easy to see holes in targets and while I don't shoot critters, I'm sure that flat point would be very effective on the appropriate sized game...Ray

That is an excellent bullet design. I have the Lee Six Cavity mould and treasure it.

I bought one in the past year and really like it. Its a two cavity and still cast easily. I'm still working on loads but no disappointments so far.

I also have had good success with this bullet. I was a little concerned about the rather stingy lube groove, but it hasn't caused any problems that I can tell. Also, it helps for indoor shooting to keep the mess and smoke down, no need to use more lube than necessary. Lee's molds are kinda known for skimpy lube grooves, but I must admit for most situations they are adequate.

I have the 2 cavity and the 6 cavity. Different boolits. 2 cavity has a longer nos and a flat base. Six cavity has a small bevel base.
Both shoot good.

my two cav has a bevel base.

thanks for all the responses!

From the Lee drawing /pic it looks like a conciderable area forward of the front driving band is large enough contact the lands, sort of bore riding. Is this correct? Can't tell for sure from the drawing.

Has anyone fired and recovered one? Is there any rifling marks ahead of the driving bands?

As far as BB vs. plain base, i don't think it i would notice much differance.

Thanks.

Glad to hear all the positive feedback on this mold. I recently purchased one myself and have dropped boolits with it but haven't yet loaded and fired any. I feel better about it now.

My six cavity drops the boolits at 161-163grns

They shoot great and I cast some up for a friend that uses them hog hunting.

I cast them hard and water quench.

I like to use them for action shooting sports but they dont feed as well as the 158gr rn with the 2r design.

I like the nice clean holes in the targets but loading speed is a factor in the action shooting sports.

I have not tried them hunting yet but I think that the meplat would work awesome for deer as well as hogs.

I like this boolit design also, the only thing I don't care for is the little tiny crimp groove. Actually, it's not really an issue because it works but it could be a little wider and deeper.

I get better accuracy with the Lee semi wadcutter out of my Marlin lever gun with velocities over 1150 fps. Under that, the RNFP is spot on.
