Was out at the range this morning. Testing for group and had the chrony set up. Last shot and I couldn't read the display. Got up from the bench and discovered that gas checks do come off!!!:(

Looks to me that display is just looking to be hit by something---but I am sorry that it happened to you. Glad I have a Chrony with a remote display...

OUCH!

I think I'm gonna have to get a metal cover for mine, just in case....

There have been some well designed deflectors posted here, most employed Lexan set at an angle. The Lexan allows see through to read the display.

Yep, did the same thing on my Chrony. Blast from my 357 took the front decal display right off. At least mine was cosmetic and Chrony sent me a new one.

After that, I cut some 1/4" Lexan for a small protective shield.

Hopefully yours is a quick and easy (and Cheap!!) fix by replacing the LCD disaply module. If not, I am sure someone here will snatch it up!

Good Luck!!

Ditto. Mine wears Lexan too.

Took out the display and the assembly behind it. Don't think it will be cost effective to repair it.

Lexan in front of it , to be sure, on the next one!!

What store carries Lexan ?
About what does it cost ?
What quantity can you buy this stuff in ? Only a small piece is needed I would think
How did you mount it ?

I've got a Chrony in transit, I'm hoping it gets here before this weekend. I'll be pumping GC's through it too.

Sorry for your loss Rockrat. I appreciate you bringing this Thread to light.

Tks

Check with a shop that repairs windows.

You can probably get it at a glass supplier. Maybe the kind that does shower and windows. I am going to get a piece of aluminum and mount the crony on it and overhang it in the front and mount the Lexan on it. Probably use inch thick and mount it with screws from underneath.

HomeDepot/Lowes carries it also... At least the last time I bought some, and I even had them rough cut it for me.

Oh.. so its some pretty thick stuff then. I was thinking more in terms of plexiglass or window thinkness...... thanks!

BTW... I have that same Chrony coming (I think / Pro Digital)

There are two kinds of chronos. One's that have been shot! And the one's waiting to be shot! :-D

After reading some of the horror stories here about people accidentally shooting their chrony's, I had better order myself a new one now.

Mine has been nicked a couple of times, but as nascarkent says it's only a matter of time. [smilie=1:

I don't use gas checks, and my Chrony is far enough from the bench to avoid problems with bullet lube and over-powder wads.

But, if one of these 550 grain bullets decides to hit it, no piddlin' chunk of Lexan is going to save it.

I sight the bullseye through the bore when adjusting the tripod the Chrony sits on. If that doesn't keep it safe...it was already destined to die before I bought it.

Even an inch thick piece of Lexan wouldn't stop have stopped one of the 975gr slugs @2300fps, I was shooting. Oh well, it lasted 10 years.

Lexan is available at TAP plastics.

A fleck of boolit lube can also damage a chrony.

Mike, nope, it was still in the case neck. I set the crony about 20yds out, because the muzzle blast can give errors

[QUOTE=Sprue;630263]Oh.. so its some pretty thick stuff then. I was thinking more in terms of plexiglass

lexan is similar to plexiglass, and not necessarily thick. plexiglass is cast acrylic and would suffice as a shield, if thick enough (1/4 inch should do); lexan is polycarbonate, and is often used in bulletproof glass, and would probably be a better choice.

ebay has lexan sheets 1/4" x 5 1/2" x 12 7/8" for $2.00 plus shipping.

I have a Pact and though the display isn't down range my sky screens have taken quite a beating from gas checks....

I had one of those once and put a .303" through it. As it and its bits were bowdling their way down range the chap next to me said, "thats an interesting chronographing method, do you work out velocity by measuring how far it travels down range each time".

.....and you can't score and snap Lexon to break it like plexiglass, you have to saw it.

Thanks to all who posted here. I recently got a ProChrono and before I even used I went to a local glass shop and picked up some 1/4" lexan. The guy had a 12" X 12" piece of scrap and wouldn't take anything for it. I know where I'm get my next glass job done.

Here's how I did mine just a piece of clothes hanger and some electrical tape. Used it once and you can see the Lars Red Carnuba on the lexan.
