I've been reloading for years, and have loaded a couple thousand commercial cast bullets, but haven't yet made the jump to casting my own yet. I've been reading here, learning, and generally enjoying this forum.

The more i've read here, the more i've wanted to start casting my own, but financially, it's not a good time for me (unemployed) .

tonight, however, i run into a deal that i just had to go for. on craigslist,

a lee bottom pour pot (10lb i think), about 100lb of lead, an iron melting pot, and some fishing sinker molds for $75.

the seller says the lead is from wheel weights. i asked about zinc, he says these are from about 4 or 5 years ago, and he never had a slushy melt. it sounded like he tried casting sinkers, gave up, and has stored this stuff away for years.

i think this is a good start for me;)

what do you guys think?

I think you did good -- just make sure that pot is working OK!

You did fine considering the pot costs about that much. Expect the pot to drip. I have an old cast iron potter 5 pound that does not drip...and a Lee ten poud that drips no matter what I do.

Do a search for various fixes for it.

Now you can cast bullets with lead and sinkers with the zinc.
