I just ordered a new one of these in 45LC. Anyone have one? If so what is your opinion of it.

buddy has one of the large framed guns in 40/65 and had some problems with the sights and one other problem that i cant recall. He got it straightened up and now really likes the gun.

Don't know who makes the Chaparral 1866 but I have a Uberti made 1866 in 44-40 and like it a lot it, shoots very well, the only qurk is the cartridge OAL, too long and when the action is cycled the round hangs up at the back of the mag tube.

That brass frame is purty but when stressed with factory volisity loads or hotter will stretch in short order causing head space problems so shoot mild loads in it.

Chaparral is made by the Son of the founder of Armi San Marcos at the old ASM factories in Italy, I have heard horror stories about their 76's. Ask JBar4Ranch.

A friend has had consistent extractor problems with a replica '73 in .45 LC. I would think
that since the rifle design was intended for the smaller diam and more generous rim of the .44-40
that the extractor may be working hard on the tiny rim, and maybe there is less room for
the thickness of metal necessary with the .45 LC. Remember, the rim on the .45 LC was only
intended to keep the cases from falling thru the cyl, NOT for extraction - push extraction was
from inside the case. Switching to external hook type extractors seems like a bit marginal,
with the tiny little rim, altho many manage to make it work.

My Chaparral 1876 was a *** and was replaced by Charter Arms. The second one was a *** and was replaced again. The third one had problems, but was within my capabilities to fix. I'll never buy another Chaparral.

I hope that you get a good one! I thought that all Winchester replicas were made by Uberti. It looks like things are changing, and hopefully not for the worse.

I have a Uberti '73 in .45 Colt. Long tube on it, since it's the deluxe. Never had any problems and it shoots like a dream. Don't know anything about the Chapparal, though. Next lever gun I get will be a Cimarron '76 in .50-95 Win. Saw one for the first time recently and I gots ta have one.
