I'm having trouble getting some cast, gaschecked bullets to go straight into my 30-40 cases. They seem to start ok, but them they tilt and shave lead off the sides of the bullet going into the neck.

These same cases I've used with Oregon Trails Laser Cast .309 caliber bullets, and they go in straight and true.

Any suggestions?

You'll want to get a die to bell the case mouths when you loading cast lead. It's an extra step but it sure does make it easier, and they'll shoot a whole lot better. My buddy talked me into trying it and it makes a significant difference.

What brand dies are you using? Some seater dies come with two different seater plugs. You may be using the wrong one for the style boolit you are seating causing the boolit to cock.

LEE case mouth expander die. What size are you sizing your boolits to? The Laszercast may have been smaller diameter.

Camfering the inside case mouth helps too if you haven't done that yet.

You need a Lyman "M" Long die. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=129697

Like Down South mentioned it could just be your seater plug shape. Remove your seater plug to see if it holds onto the bullet nose.
Also it could be die adjustment. the seater die body should guide the bullet. Set the body so it's jsut above the crimp step then adjust the plug for bullet depth.

I use Vickerman seating dies and don't even have to use an "M" die. They go in perfectly straight with no shaving what so ever. From I believe one of this sites sponsors. http://www.castingstuff.com/gmw_products.htm As far as I'm concerned they are worth every penny. One, for example, 30 cal. seating die will seat as far as I know most all 30 cal. cartridges (don't know about 30 carbine or 7.62 x 39).

I have a Lee all purpose case flaring die, $10, not a bad deal and does the job.

Check to see if you can inside chamfer the mouth of the case, that may help.

Also check to make sure the seater die nose holder guide thingy (technical term) doesn't have some "crud" on it
