Hi all, new member just wondering what you would use for the following:

175 gr. cast bullet including check and lube.

I'll be using IMR 4198 with CCI # 34 primers.

thanks in advance!

Sorry I've no loads for the 8x57 using 4198 (have numerous other loads, best is with 4895 if you're interested) but I have tested other loads with the #34 primer. It is a stong magnum primer and sometimes with a couple powders it works ok using cast bullets. Most often I've found that more uniform ignition and hence most oftem better accuracy, espeially with the faster burning powders comes with a softer burning primer. I find WLRs and Rem 9 1/2s to work very well. Just some food for thought.

thanks Larry for the quick response. I also use 4895, so the switch wouldn't bother me a bit. I use #34's because I reload a lot for the Garand, so I have them laying around when I need them, but if you suggest another primer I'll be sure to give it a try, if I can find them. Around here, the most common LR primer is CCI.

For 4198 and a 175 gr bullet, something in the 25 to 32 range should do well for you. My 98k doesn't really like this load but my Turk 38 does very well with 27 gr of 4198.
