Hi all I just learned from Brett at Magnum Research Precision center that the chambering reamer for my new .45 Colt has arrived. He assured me that the chambers will be .452 the barrel will be .451 with a twist of 1 in 20". The over all length of the cylinder is roughly 1.9"s. Any suggestions as to maximum wgt. cast bullets and what powders work best with LP primers for heavy loads. This is new territory for me, in the past all my "hot" reloading has been with a .44 mag. and 2400. I have red dot IMR 4227, 2400 and unique on hand. Plenty of LP but Magnum LP primers are hard to come by. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. odis

BFR. Sounds good to me. W296 and >300 grn boolits. Go from medium to top velocity for accuracy. W296/H110 are interchangable. If you don't get bughole groups, then switch to 2400. In my experience, a short barrel likes a faster powder, 2400 vs 296. But I would start off with a good, heavy boolit that you can duplicate, like at least the Lee 300 grn. I'd work with the Ruger/TC load level mostly and go for groups, 25 yds for sight in, then go right to 50 with a good bag or rest. Does it come with a scope mount? Then add an Ultradot Matchdot for load testing. You can put the irons on later if needed. That's what I would do. I'd have that BFR shining in no time. :Fire: Great choice.

Ihave read that 296 and 110 are the same but I see load data for 296 with magnum primers only and 110 with both. Magnum primers are very hard to come by where I live. I'm leaning towards the 310 gr. plain base sold by Lead heads that is an LBT design. I am really looking forward to shooting this gun, I have never shot anything like it. I know it is not a FA or a Linebaugh or a clements but its definatley not a factory Ruger either. odis

OK how necessary is a magnum primer with H 110 or H Lil Gun powders? My brass that I will be using is Star Line and I have both WLP and Fed LP primers. odis

Very necessary in my experience. H110 is erratic without magnum primers.

I use 19.0gr of Lil' Gun, Winchester Large Pistol Primers, with a 300gr RN in 45lc brass out of my Ruger 454. Shoots nice tight groups at 50 yards.

Shoots nice tight groups at 50 yards.Lil' Gun works well with lp's and is there much breathing room between min. and max.? I have not used that powder before but it is one that I wanted to try. Thank you for the reply. odis
