Who has results with 860 or 872 from Bartlett in the 30-06? I'm using the 180 RCBS FNGC. I've had fair results with 7383, under 2 inches at 100 yds scoped from the bench. This convinced me that the surplus powder and cast combination is worth pursuing. A local group buy appears to be headed for Bartlett and I'm considering 860 or 872 next. Suggestions?

I have fired about a thousand round of 30-06 using WC872. I used 50 grains and enough shotshell buffer (PSB) to give a light compression. The amount of buffer is either 1 cc or .5 cc depending on the weight/length of the bullet. The primer has always been a Remington 9.5.

The accuracy of this load is all the rifle and bullet have to give. I have used this load in several rifles. With good bullets I have no problem turning in 1.5-1.7 inch ten shot groups and 100 yards out of my stock REmington 03A3. I can do this with RCBS 165 Sil, #311284, #311467, and #311291. It will do 2" with several other bullets. All bullets sized .310 or .311.

I have never measured it, but I would guess the velocity is 1.7K fps, plus or minus 100 fps.

Other rifles in 30-06 react the same way. As I said, this load will give all the accuracy the rifle and bullet has to give.

30'06 case, 60 grains WC860, 311466 Velocity 2200 fps. Shoots nice groups out of my enfield.

308 46 grains WC 860 311644 Velocity bout ?1600? 1 1/4" groups @ 100 yards out of my Stevens.

I have used 6 lbs since last fall. Need More!

Beeman, I've used 24lbs. over the years, much of it in the .30-06 and 8 x 57mm. If you don't want or need more than ~1,750fps with the CB you mentioned, try 48grs. and a MAG. primer of your choice (a bit cleaner burning and lower extreme spreads). Also, try to blow out or dry patch (via a tube or cleaning rod guide form the breach) the bbl. and chamber after every 5-10 shots or you'll almost certainly get powder dented cases. Lastly, although it may be tempting to try various fillers, WC 860 burning characteristics aren't improved by them at all.*

*with the exception of the 7.65 x 53 Arg. Mau. and a heavy CB such as #314299. Grex really cleaned things up there!

Thanks for the input gentlemen. I'll give 872 a try in 30-06 for cast. The 7383 will stay with the 243, where I've had excellent results like Maven has reported.
