I was wondering if anyone had any sugesstions on surplus in the 375 H&H (to around 2200 FPS)..I was looking into the surp 4895, but I recently had some scary experiences with hangfires and "no-fires"using canister IMR 4895 (47 Grs) I am shooting Lyman 375449 (268 gr in my alloy).

while I am at it, does anyone have any idea why I was getting hangfires? Powder was new off the shelf, and performs perfectly in other calibers..CCI Standard primers which are also new, and not contaminated, and work perfectly in other calibers & powders...It is also a listed load. I am very confused...

any help would be appriciated!

I also have experienced hangfires using 4895 in this cartridge. I was using WLR primers and the RCBS 37-250 when it happened and I never did determine the cause. I've used heavier charges of 4895 with no problems and I've used MR 3100 in full case loadings with the same bullet for about 2400 fps with success. If a case filler of some kind is needed with the lighter charges of 4895, I'd like to know what to use.

In my experience, light charges of 4895 and CCI primers don't play well together. I've used WLRM primers and found better performance. ALso used poly-fil in the .375 H&H (with no problems) and .458 WinMag to prevent this from happening.
Hope this helps...
