I was at the local gunshop a couple days ago. Tried on a Marlin in 45/70 and a BLR 450 for size and liked the BLR better. It occurred to me after I got home that the BLR probably doesn't have the Ballard type rifling that the Marlin does. Does anybody know, or should it even matter. This will be a cast boolit only rifle, so it's ability with cast matters. The debate between 45/70 vs. 450 isn't an issue with me, as I'll be reloading anyway. Thanks. Ron.

Ron, there is no debate. You got the better gun because of the bolt lockup placement. Locking lugs are where they are supposed to be, like up front. The Marlin and Winnie have rear locking "lugs". ... felix

your browning should be ballard style rifleing and handle cast just fine

Thanks guys, I like the gun, just couldn't find any info regarding the rifling. I figured, at least it'd be better than Marlin's microgroove, which has been made to shoot cast. Again, thanks. Ron.
Don't know anything about the .450 but, my old pre 81 in .358 likes cast just fine and I'd bet the .450 will too.
