View Full Version : Brass modification
I'm planning to buy an Encore Pistol barrel chambered in either 375 Winchester or 38-55 Winchester. According to TC, the "bores" are identical on the two barrels.
Has anyone tried trimming new 38-55 brass to the proper length and firing them in a 375? Other than the 38-55 possibly being weaker brass, I don't see a down side to this.

I shoot blown out 30-30 brass in my 375 Marlin for all but "big boomer" loads. Prob'ly amounts to the same thing you're proposing. The only problem I sometimes have is the 30-30 brass, being thinner, sometimes isn't sized down enough to get a good grip on the boolit. Regards, Woody

If you purchase Winchester brass it is basically the same length as 30-30 brass. Starline sell 38-55 brass in two lengths - the original and new shorterned version.

True 375 Winchester brass is thicker, but I have used both and see no problems with 38-55.
Let me know if you need some of either.

This has come up before IIRC. I think it is great that Starline does this!!

starline does this because some of the the singleshots used a longer chamber [length of brass] than the levers do.
like the 25-20 singleshot and 25-20 win are two different cases.
