I want to try using Alliant 2400 as a propellant for a Lyman #311413, 169 gr. cast bullet in my Savage 99, caliber .308. I've seen reference to it in the web but nothing that stated what the safe starting and max loads would be. I looked in all my manuals and came up dry. If anyone has a manual that gives those loads I'd really appreciate it if you could pass the info along.

Thanks, Qajaq

Quajac I use seventeen grains of 2400 with a 180gr cast gas check for 1720fps average and an inch at a hundred yards when I do my part. According to my reference manuals around twenty-five grains is maximum for a cast boolit. This is in my 24" Savage bolt gun.

Marty sounds right, I use 16 to 25.

I finally got the Savage 99 repaired and took 3 each of 10 different loads of A2400 to the range. The 16 gr and 17.5 gr loads gave me 3 bullet holes touching at 50 yards. And keep in mind that I'm an old dude and the eyes aren't what they used to be. I'll do more experimenting, but that's not too shabby for a cast bullet that supposedly doesn't work well in the .308.
Thanks again for the help...... Qajaq
