View Full Version : Where to get SKS parts?

I picked up an SKS on a horse trade. It has an after market bolt cover mfgr'd. for a scope mount. I'd like to remove it and replace it with a standard bolt cover. Also, I'd like to find a 20 rd. magazine for the rifle. Where can I find these parts at an economical price?

Jim,
Here is a good place to start.

These folks are my go-to place for parts. Rarely are they missing stuff.
Good luck with it.

Sarco has a listing on parts for them also, http://www.sarcoinc.com/sks.html

I didn't see any hi-cap mags in their listing, but they may have them. At one time there was a kit that allowed the use of AK magazines, but I haven't seen them in a while. For the non-QD type, try someplace like Sportsmans Guide, or Cheaper Than Dirt if gunparts.com doesn't pan out.

High cap mags for the SKS are a sometimes thing. Sometimes they work - but not very often. I opted to use the standard 10 round mag and stripper clips for reloading. Seems fast enough and it never malfunctions.

I've had great luck with the TAPCO 20 round mags in my Norinco. I've heard fit can be an issue with these mags if you have a YUGO.

They run around $15-$20.

I like it with the bullet proof 10 rounder. Wish they were still $95 bucks.

Count me as a "ten rounder" as well.

I have one each way and the original is the best in my opinion.

It took me 4 gun shows to find a stock bolt cover, now the 3 rail cover is in a bag, in a drawer.

On mags. Can I tell you, I bought them all. Duckbills and not, even DC Engineerings $90 one.

NONE WORKED as good as the stock 10 rounder. Its back on.

Anyone wants the DC Engineering 20 rounder and adapter, PM me, $50 its yours, and Ill throw in the 3 rail for $10 worth of shipping.

BTW there is a 20 round chinese stock one, that works well. Ive not seen one in two years, and they go for $200 now.

I got one of those fixed 20 rounders a few years back and it works like a champ. I just wish I had bought a couple of them. Who would have figured they be so hard to find right now.

Depending on what parts you are looking for J&G Sales may be another place to look.

I just noticed a 20 rounder in the new Cabellas catalog of all things. $39.00 plus shipping.

Pick up a Shot Gun News.

There are many sources in them. Some are listed in this thread.

Shameless plug for a guy who has become a good friend. His name is Dave LaRoche, and he runs www.milsurpstuff.com

http://www.milsurpstuff.com/products.asp?cat=SKS+Magazines

You place an order with Dave, and I bet you'll have a magazine in your mailbox in 3 days. I've done a lot with him, and he's never failed to deliver WAY BEYOND EXPECTATIONS. He uses USPS Priority mail as well, and will save you on shipping.

Tell him HandyRandyRC sent you.

All those mags have the smae problem, none will work with stripper clips.

If you want to hand load them, I didnt find one that didnt work.

Still have a 3 rail bolt cover scope mount and 20 round mag for sale.
