Well, I made a primitive barrel vise, (2 pieces of hardwood drilled at 1" o.c.) and was able to drift the existing front sight out with no problem. I'm sure the secret to this is a rock solid grip on the barrel and firearm. The new Shaver sight looked and measured larger, so I took a tad off by running on a file and then progressively finer emery paper. It didn't take much for the sight to be drifted in and centered by eyeball. I locktighted it in. The range report: No windage adjustment needed! What a welcome surprise. Also my bottom setting for 100 yards was moved up to 26 points, which was the main purpose of installing a higher sight, (.637 instead of .375). I now can shoot a 100 yard target without "Kentucky" windage. All in all it was a successful endeavour. Thanks. Chris.
