Winchester 1885 in 32-40 came home with me yesterday. My wife gave me that look that most of us married guys know when she saw me come in with a box. Since she gave me the silent treatment for a couple of hours I got online an ordered brass from Buffalo Arms and dies and cast boolits from Midway. Life is good. :-D

Looks nice. Yesterday I ordered its sister in 38-55. I will bring her home on the 2nd of next month. Dies, brass, molds etc. will arrive before then.

.............Check your new 32-40 brass for length. If the breechblock on your highway is tight you might also want to explore rim thickness. I may have just gotten 200 cases from a bad batch. It's supposed to be 2.130" but checking, mine they run all over from 2.095" to 2.128". That's bad enough, but rim thickness is an issue for me. It may be no big deal in a M94 or M93 but my scheutzen rifle's breechblock will hang up and refuse to fully close on those with thicker rims.

Thats sweet I've been thinking about the same one for a while now. Please get her going and let us know how she shoots.

These guns have very tight chambers and short throats. A .323-4 boolit may not chamber. Your results may vary. Im using the Winchester brass.

The dies and the (perhaps too big) bullets should be here by Tuesday, but Buffalo Arms called to advise that my small order of reformed (38-55) brass may be delayed by a couple of weeks. Not a big deal in the long run, but still disappointing that I probably won't get try it out next weekend. Also, I just checked Lee's website and did not see a resizer that would take me below .323" without going to the custom service route. Oh well, patience right? :(

Let us know how this works for you. I have not shot mine yet but plan to do so soon. Others have posted that they will shoot good. I have four different boolit styles loaded in new Winchester 32-40 brass ready to go.

Been looking for Win. brass, but all the usual suspects have them on backorder. I am "patiently" waiting my turn. My wife not too gently reminds me that it is not as if I have nothing else to shoot in the meantime.

.............Women just do NOT understand, do they!? Shooting something else does not satisfy the desire of shooting the new aquisition.

smokeless! I managed to get the last 20 rounds of 32-40 (.321") ammo from Ten-X this morning. The guy who answered the phone bent over backwards to help me out. Their holdup is the lack of Winney brass. At least I will have 20 rounds of brass to start out with. Sure would be nice to be able to shoot it this coming weekend.

I loaded 16 rounds of Meister cast 170 gr. RNFP bullets/13.5 gr. H4227/32-40 cases reformed from Starline 38-55 brass. The .323 caliber chambered without a fuss. The weather is and has been the problem. It is hot (damn hot) and windy as well, but the results at 50 were promising. The first shot is low at 5 o'clock. I adjusted the sights and got on track until the last shot that you see high at 1 o'clock. Recoil was quite light. When I got back to the house it was already 102. Also, my 20 rounds of Ten_X ammo had arrived--too late for today.

I also had the Little Sharps in 38-55 out today and a Browning BPCR in 45-70 that I bought in 1998 or 1999. I shot both of those at 100 yds. I did well with the 38-55, but terrible with the 45-70. I think I was already recoil sensitive by the time I got to it. A 260 gr. bullet in 38-55 charged with 30.0 gr. of Varget recoils a tad in the Little Sharps. That's my story anyway, and I'm sticking to it.

All in all, it was a good day, the beat the hell out of being at the office.
