View Full Version : Saw a lovely Kropatschek today

Ducked out the range at lunchtime and a fellow club member arrived with his newly acquired Kropatschek short rifle. It was in very nice condition with a bright bore. VERY shootable. Lovely old rifle.

Hmmm. Sounds Rooskie, but other than that, I am woefully ignorant.
Jeff, please enlighten me, what is a Kropat . . . . whatever. :-)

bill, most i have seen are marked steyr 1886. they look alot like a 71\84 mouser. they have a tube mag and shoot a big 8mm with a case that can be made from a 348 win. round is like a long 8mm lebel. as far as i know they were portugues military rifles.:castmine:

few thousands were made for the french navy ,but i think it was in 11m/m gras
all the stock was submerged off TOULON in deep water .
very scarce here .

the" modèle marine " marine in french is navy is the 1878
some were transformed for the infantery modele 1884
on the picture on action sold
the marine have forearm bands and foream cap in brass
the infantery bands and cap in steel
the bayonnet is the same as gras the narrow model " langue de carpe"
not a yatagan
price 3500- 4000 euro

Holy crap! 4000 Euros is around $6000. No wonder I haven't seen one, I don't
travel in those circles much.
Thanks for the additional info. At that price, I'm not going to ever own one.
