I've been in search of a light CB load that cycles the action and delivers good accuracy with a NEI 155 grain GC bullet sized to .313" After trying 4 or 5 different powders, I've settled on 12 grains of 2400.

Feeding and cycling is flawless even after 100 rounds, yet the spent cases land close by. Accuracy with the military sights is a bit less than 2" at 50 yards.

Now all I need to do is locate a local source for some more 2400 powder.

I have been using between 12 and 14 grs of 2400 withe same bullet and getting similar results. Powder Valley has 1lb containers of 2400 in stock, if you order enough to justify the costs. I also get similar results with light loads of Accurate 1680. I like 1680 since it can also be used for full power loads with jacketed bullets, and it is usually cheaper than 2400.

Gee - how does your accuracy with the reduced 1680 loads compare with the 2400?

I am getting groups in my SKS of almost the same size with 1680 as I was getting with 2400, about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inch at 50yds with 10 shots open sights. My best load was 15.8 grs 1680 with the Lee 155 gr cast with water dropped WW, sized 313, lubed with Lee 50/50 alox and a Hornady GC.

I did try WW296 and the accuracy wasn't as good, and the cased were sooted.

I don't mean to hi-jack the thread, .....but has anyone played around with sub-sonic cast loads for the 7.62x39 round?

I have a Yugo SKS with the grenade launcher "shut-off"; ....And I was thinking of trying to play some ".300 Whisper" games.

I would use lots of caution using reduced loads of 296. Winchester published warning against this practice. Same with H110.

What is the twist rate in an SKS? I'm using WC680 with 314299 sized .310" in my 300 Whisper with a 1 in 8" twist at 1,100fps or so.

Tried the same velocity in my 30-30 Win. T/C and the boolit was not real stable. O.K. at 25 yards or so.

I loaded up a bunch of TL-312-160's over 14.8 grains of 2400 and the action wont quite cylce on my 16"bbl sks paratrooper. I fire them with the gas piston removed so the cases dont get damaged. As soon as they are all shot up, I'm going to try them at 15.2 grains.
