New troop reporting!. I am addicted to Rugers and cast for them. I had a savage 340 30-30 follow me home. It has the dockendorfer sight, walnut stock. Can't wait to try some 150 gr boolits with 2400. Any starting loads suggestions?? I also found some 120 gr 30 carbine boolits. Can you use these in a 30-30?? thanks, greg aka gremlin:castmine :

You can use pretty much any 30 cal bullet in your rifle. Generally the 30/30s aren't real good with the real heavy boolits, but they might work in yours as a single shot.

As to the 30Carbine bullets, they will work fine until you cast up some real boolits.

There was a thread the other day talking about suitable moulds, but with a box magazine, the selection is even wider. Good luck with it. I have never seen one of those that didn't have a trashed barrel. I think I will buy the next one and spring for a new barrel, I have always wanted a 788 in 30/30, but I think I won't find one of those in this lifetime in Australia.

Thanks for the answer. I live in Utah and I used a gage on the bbl after cleaning it. Will know more after midway sends me 2 molds and a sizer. In the mean time, sanding and refinishing the stock will keep me busy. greg :cbpour:

My Marlin 30AS likes the Lee C309-150-F over 15.5 grains of 2400 for about 1,740 fps.

My notebook is deep downstairs with my 340 notes. AIRC, mine like the 311291 and the Lee 150FP. My Dockendorfer sight did not move groups as I thought it should and mine now has a peep. They can be good shooters.
