I'm thinking of making a neck size die out of threaded rod.
I'm thinking of making it so it would be just a short stub and not cover the whole case.
I'm neck sizing my 41Swiss shells with a 44mag sizing die.
I would like a little tighter neck.
Has anyone done something like this?????

I think the reason neck size dies are full length is to prevent the posibility of deforming the case shoulder. The die should contact the shell holder before creating an excess head space problem.

This is why. It is not good to distort the case shoulder. Headspace problems and ruined brass.

There is no benefit to neck sizing below the base of the seated bullets.

Your idea has been tried, successfully.

I guess if your careful this will work.
I've been using a 44mag size die to neck size 41Swiss brass.
If you push to hard you might have a problem.
I haven't had any problems so far.
I'm just wondering why some company is not selling anything like this.

It may be completely off base, but I've always thought that having just a bit of the neck unsized helps center the case in the chamber, assuming it's being fired in the same chamber again.
