Hey guys,

Finaly got the .410 dies from CH and have a question about the core seating die. Unlike the CH .429 and .400 seating die the .410 has a taper at the very front of the opening from .450 down to the necessary .405 about .14 deep. Any ideas as the .400 and .429 dies do not have this taper? Is this a combination jacket reducing/core seating die? Like for using .429 jackets to reduce to .405 while you are seating the core? It looks like it should work good at reducing the 40 S&W case at the same time I seat the core. Ideas?

Thanks,

BT

BT,

I will have to look at the set of CH 41 dies I got from Freakshow10mm to see if they are the same as yours. I played with using untrimmed 40S&W brass and it make a decent slug but to fill up the cas it ends up being heavy. Maybe too heavy for a 41 mag. I don't remember right off hand the weight, but i was using a 148 gr 358 WC as a core. Then I used a 125 grain and a OO buckshot. They looked ok, but I don't have a 41 so they jsut get to look good.

I had a time of it running the fired brass into the core swage die and had to make a punch and run the annealed brass into the die empty then put the core in. I have a length of 7/8x14threaded stock in the lathe that is slowly becoming a push thru case sizer for the purpose.

I plan on making a reducing die as well. The core seat die I got had a rough finish on the inside and I had to send it back.

I think I'll have to trim the 40 brass as well to get a decent weight for the 41.

I'll post some pics when I get some together.

the 41 core seater I have as an entry bevel also. It is .432 at mouth and tapers to .406 in a distance of roughly .2

I will be watching for your results and will try to post some pics when I get a chance.

Just got the new core seat die today and all is well. I was able to size a 40 S&W case for a jacket and seat a core in it at the same time.

Here is a link to some of my results. I'll post it here soon.
