I just visited a Cabela’s store that recently opened near here. Everything in there was way overpriced. Example: A Yugo M-48 for $500.00. It was a nice example, but still….

I don’t think I’ll be shopping there much.

Wait till you see the prices Gander Mountain is asking for milsurp rifles, e.g., >$500 for a SMLE MK 3 and >$800 for a Mk 4: Nice wood, but filthy bores. You don't even want to know what they want for a 7.65 x53mm or , gasp, a Garand!

Yep,

I saw a used Seecamp .32 at Cabala's. They were asking $600.

I bought a brand new one for $340.

They can keep asking those high prices. They will NOT be getting those prices from me. I am a bargin shopper only.

As my best friend is the head of the gun library in Sidney I can tell you that after the stores NEW wears off the prices will normalize. The folks they hire for the new stores need to get their experience and confidence working. If you were a new hire and were told that your job depended on your sales you would probably not be the best pricer either. As they season they learn what to mark up and what to mark down. The Mitchell store went through that also and now after a couple of years the prices are in line with most other outlets. It's kind of like you hire a guy 'cause he is a duck hunter and then you hand him a BLUE BOOK and say go price guns. I have gotten some real bargains from Cabella's including an unmodified 88 carbine for $100 bucks. You just have to wait and shop.

The Cabelas in WV was asking nearly $1000 for a High Standard Citation model. I have one I bought new 30 years ago for $200 NIB. It is even in better shape than the one Cabelas had. Helped me convince the wife about the forethought involved in a few of my investments. Don't be afraid to take the wife to Cabelas and show her how well you have done.
