I'm looking for info in Varget loads for a 50-90 with a 525 cast Boolit. Will 63 grns spit it out at 1750fps.? And 72 grns should bring it up to 1900fps. Does this sound right?
And before it's brought up.... No It's not for a trapdoor.:Fire: :Fire:
My Hodgdon's manual is too old for Varget.
Thanks

Mike, just happened to have some of my manuals handy. Hodgdon's doesn't list loads for the .50/90. They list the .50 Alaskan, which is a 2.1" nominal case vs. your .50/90's 2.5" case. Their data for the Alaskan with a 525 gr. cast LFN w/GC doesn't list Varget, either. They list the following with the .50 Alaskan and that bullet:

59 gr. Benchmark - 1694 fps. - 25,800 CUP starting load
63 gr. Benchmark - 1820 fps. - 34,300 CUP max.

56 gr. H-322 - 1691 fps. - 27,100 CUP starting load
60 gr. H-322 - 1823 fps. - 34,200 CUP max.

51 gr. H-4198 - 1724 fps. - 27,300 CUP starting load
55 gr. H-4198 - 1852 fps. - 34,800 CUP max.

They also list the .50/140 Sharps with the 515 gr. Lyman plain base bullet, but that info won't help you.

If you have any Accurate Arms powder, they list the .50/90 with the 440 gr. Lyman 515141 plain based cast bullet at:
(this bullet with OAL @ 3.000", Eldorado cases with Fed. 215's)

5744 - min @ 29.7 gr./1248 fps. - max. @ 33 gr./1418 fps. (max. @ 14,100 psi),

AA-4350 - min. @ 72 gr./1539 fps. - max. @ 80 gr./1749 fps. (max. @ 19,500 psi)

AA-3100 - min. @ 76.5 gr./1492 fps. - max. @ 85 gr./1695 fps. (max. @ 18,300 psi)

AA-8700 - min. @ 76.5 gr./1242 fps. - max @ 85 gr./ 1411 fps. (max. @ 15,300 psi)

Accurate Arms again, with the 550 gr. RCBS cast bullet, 2.925" OAL, same cases and primer:

5744 - 27 gr. min. @ 1122 fps. - 30 gr. max. @ 1275 fps. (max. @ 15,600 psi)

AA-4350 - min. @ 58.5 gr./1274 fps. - max. @ 65 gr./1448 fps. (max. @ 17,000 psi)

AA-3100 - min. @ 62.1 gr./1220 fps. - max. @ 69 gr./1386 fps. (max. @ 16,300 psi)

AA-8700 - min. @ 64.8 gr./1035 fps. - max. @ 72 gr./1176 fps. (max. @ 16,700 psi)

Lymans 47th Ed. manual lists the .50/70, but 3031 is the slowest burning powder they list, which won't help you much. Nevertheless, I've got it here in front of me, so here's what it lists, in case it helps you later:

.50/70 Gov't - - - Lyman 515142 PB lead bullet at 498 gr. nominal, 2.223" OAL, B.E.L.L. brass & Fed 215's, and a 1/2 gr. Poly fiber wad 5/8" sq. & 1/4" thick over powder:

Unique - 10.5-13.8 gr. - 1114 fps at max. (no pressure listings)
SR-4759 - 18.5-24.0 gr. - 1215 fps. at max.
IMR-4227 - 19.0-24.5 gr. - 1202 fps. at max.
IMR-4198 - 22.3-28.5 gr. - 1188 fps. at max.
IMR-3031 - 27.5-31.5 gr. - 1005 fps. at max.

That's not exactly what you asked for, but since it was handy, I thought it may help at least a little, either now or later.

What rifle are you shooting?

Thanks Blackwater !!!!
Actually this is going into a double rifle. The 50-140 loads will be alot closer IF they show any Varget loads. Those loads I listed just seem too slow from what I understand about this Varget Powder.

I was just sent a PDF file of the Hodgdons cowboy loads. Some of them show the Varget.
So Thanks Again Blackwater.
BTW If you typed all those loads I'm impressed. That'd take me the better part of a week! ;D
