Other than the 156, did Lyman or Ideal make a .358 Keith or Thompson style mold in a gas check design?

OK, thanks. I was just looking through the Ol' Buffalo bullet mold tables and could not find anything else.

Jim Harvey designed and Lyman produced molds as 357511 and 357512. I don't know the weights but pictures look to be in the 150 gr weight. Harvey also designed quite a few molds for a zinc base bullet. Some of his molds were produced by Lyman for Lakeville Arms in Lakeville Conn. and sold only by Lakeville Arms.

The chart shows those as 107 and 130 grains. I'm looking for a standard gas check bullet in a more conventional design. I just bid on a 358156 yesterday.

Floodgate is the man to ask.

floodgate here:

The #358511 and #358512 were NOT gas-check designs; they were for use with half-length jackets supplied by Lakeville Arms and later by Speer and others. On some of these, the front band ahead of the HJ rode on the groove diameter, and caused leading; later HJ designs extended on up to the start of the ogive. Of course, you could apply GC's to the Harveys; they'd carry a WHOLE LOT of lube! Jim Harvey was last seen heading into the wilds of Alaska in pursuit of a record brown bear. I guess there are worse ways to go....

Floodgate ... good reply. I was just going on some of the older Lyman literature I have. However one old Lyman reloading manual definately shows these 2 molds as gas check designs. Looking at the pics shown they could probably take a HJ.

I will PM you my e-mail and s-mail addresses. I'd sure appreciate a copy of that Lyman manual illustration that shows these as GC designs. I have been through all the Lyman Handbooks, Cast Bullet books and Annual Product Catalogs I can find, looking for data on the Harvey designs. I have moulds for some of them made by Lyman, H&G and as made by Lyman but "made for" and sold by Lakeville Arms. There are still soem Lyman "cherry numbers" in the xxx500 - xxx52? range reserved for Harvey I have been unable to identify. Also, I have not been able to find ANY Lakeville Arms Co. literature or ads describing their bullets; if anybody has any of these I can buy or borrow for copying, PM me.
