View Full Version : 180gr 358 Lee group buy?

Hello all! New here, but, been casting for a couple of years now.

I use primarily Lee molds. I REALLY like the 6 cavity 300gr 45 mold.

I was hoping someone would know of a similar mold for 357mag/max. 180gr with GC that drops at around .358 or .359 and seats out far enough.

A dual crimp grove like what the 45cal mold does... with a large meplat as well.

I'll see if I can doctor up a photo to show what I am looking for.

Or has this already been done? (didn't find any)

Regards...

i ran a deal for a mold like this one last year and leftoverdj ran one before that.it didnt take long to fill that deal up either

the bullets drop from the mold at .360 to .361 though rather than .358 or .359

maybe yours would be a winner too

you might want to run a deal.its not that big of thing to do it.

Here's an article about the last 180 group buy bullet in my Rossi 357 mag M92. It's a fine design!

you might want to check out the Ranch Dog bullet that he has for the 357s.im thinking its right in there at .358 and it has those tumble lube groves and it takes a gas check.he posted something about it on the Beartooth boolit forum.looks like a winner to me.you could ask him abot the boolit and how its working out for him out of his 35 Marlin rifle

you should run a group buy on that bullet mold so i dont have tohttp://castboolits.gunloads.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I haven't seen the ranch dog design. I really like the tumble lube gas check designs. If you can come up with that design, I can get a check in the mail on short notice. My heavy bullet now is the lyman plain base 170 grain swc. Something heavier with a gas check would be great.

As nice as the Ranch Dog TLC359-180 is I was looking for something with a shorter crimp groove to meplat measurement such as the previous C358-180RF. I am planning on using it in my Marlin .357 rifle and I think the OAL would be prohibitive with the Ranch Dog bullet. Anyone have the Ranch Dog and use it in .357 Mag lever gun? Would love to hear about it.

One of my buds has a C358-180RF mold from the 1st group buy and I have cast a few from it. They work very nicely in a Marlin 1894C. The OAL is just about all the rifle will take, so if the Ranch Dog bullet is longer, I can't see it feeding without modifying the rifle.

i think we need another HONCHO for this deal.i have two deals running right now and bass season is comming here in Michigan.also on April 26 in am having me left knee replaced and i will have enough going on with the recovery of that and the other deal.

i do have a 6 banger Lee 180gr boolit mold from the deal i ran last year that drops the boolits out at .360 to .361.my bore slugged out at .356 and im having problems sizing the boolits down to .357.i have buckshot making me a push through .359 sizer and i will run the bullets through that first, then i will run the bullets through my .357 sizer.if this does not work out for me in doing this i will sell that mold to someone and maybe i will get in on another mold deal.it would be nice to have a mold that drops a bullet out at .358 and i could size down just .001

i will PM Ranch Dog about this and maybe he can add alittle something to this

"Anyone have the Ranch Dog and use it in .357 Mag lever gun? Would love to hear about it."

I just received these molds last week and I haven't shot the dropped bullets yet let alone anyone else:neutral: I've been tied up getting my food plots set for the summer so my deer don't revolt! Should get to it and my 375 Winchester bullet later in the week.

http://home.awesomenet.net/~ranch-dog/Casting/TLC359___TLC379.jpg

The TLC359-180-RF is on the left and it wouldn't be right for the 357 Mag as it is simply too long. It is a bore rider design because of the short neck of the 35 Remington cartridge. I'm going to give it a try in my 336ER chambered in 356 Win, but really this bullet was drawn up with the 35 Remington in mind.

If you are going to do a reprise of the previous group buy, I'd be in for one. The Ranch Dog TLC359-180RF looks like a beautiful boolit but I don't have a .35 Rem or plan to get one presently.

Thanks,

I'll commit to one. Whenever someone decides to honcho the deal. I already paid for one of the Ranch Dog bullet molds. I'm down to two pistol caliber rifles. A 357 magnum and a .44 magnum. No need for more than one .358 c358-180rf mold.

Ok BOOLIT MEISTERS

I am pretty darn sure I am gonna do the honcho thang, because apparently it is the only way I am gonna git one of these molds . I am going to talk to Jeff and make sure that I can fit it into the summer schedule of a pipeliner, and if I can I will start a new thread for the boolit pictured in Jeffs' post above, or the same boolit design with the crimp groove about .020 to .040 back to make the nose a tad longer, (have to do some measuring and thinkin first). I shot some of them boolits from Jeffs mold and they shot good as is, but they shot great seated halfway between the crimp groove and the first lube groove.

If in order to fill the buy I have to settle with the original drawing I will still be very happy, so it ain't a non-issue, but it is avery lttle issue, an issue that I can more than live with, happily

Any comments are welcome, appreciated, and requested

I want this to happen men....... My one cavity 180 grain mold just takes tooo looooong to make a bunch of boolits.

The bullet as is barely seats short enough to function smoothly in a Marlin 1894C. Don't mess with success.

Like I said above WHATEVER IT TAKES TO FILL THIS THING TO 25 MOLDS .

Gotta have me a heavy lead 6 banger, especially after shooting boolits from Jeffs mold. He offered to loan it to me, which was mighty kind of him (thank you), but I want my own, cause if something should happen I would feel like a great big turd. More than likely nothing would, but I have a knack for breakin things....Just lucky that way I guess.

Them boolits worked really good in my MGM 357 max, bipod wearing, hand held encore, almost a rifle, pistol. So maybe I shouldn't mess with success...

Plus to be quite honest I was utterly amazed at the uniformity of them boolits from a 6 cavity mold made by lee. This was my first experience with a lee 6 and I was highly impressed with the moulded fruits of Jeffs labor,

I'll take a 6-holer on this one too. The johnch design looks real good. Should work in my .35 rem and my .357 blackhawk. I've been looking for a heavier design than the standard 158 grain to work in both applications. This one with the gas check ought to do it. I would have nothing against the 2 crimp groove design. That way would work well in both applications.
