A local ad here has monotype for sale. Advertized as melted and poured into one pound ingots. Claims that it is 9% tin, 19% antimony, and 72% lead. No price is mentioned, it says will be sold by the pound for the best serious offer.

What is a fair price per pound to offer ?

The ad also mentions soft lead, wheelweights, tin and 50/50 tin/lead.

Well Rotometals will deliver you foundry proofed lino for about $2.28/# on 500#. Monotype is a bit harder, less lead, so I would think anything less than $2/# delivered would be pretty good price.

If it is in ingots (I assume home smelted) how do you know it is what is claimed? I have a hard time buying type metal that isn't still in type form.

I’m wondering why he smelted it. It would be worth more to me in type form so I would know for sure what it is. I’d see what he wants for it. Do you have a hardness tester? If you do maybe you can get a sample and test it.

I just picked up some ingoted monotype for $1.30 a pound shipped.. I have yet to melt it for boolits, but it rings nice so I know it is not dead soft lead. It was an ebay sale.. I will likely mix this one for one with either pure or 10 BHN range lead and see what the aged BHN will be, and remelt it later if I think I need more pure/range lead to bring it down to about 15 BHN.
