Might be aquiring an SKS. tell me about casting and loading for this puppy. Not interested in firepower(read bang, bang, bang, bang,...), just ease and fun. Rifle comes with scope. Would like to kill paper tigers w/ it.

Look at the sticky right above this thread title and check castpics, they have info.

Jim, +1 on what Bret said. Also, once you slug your bbl., you'll have a much better idea of which CB's it will accept. I.e., it will handle quite a few CB designs other than the C.E. Harris one offered by LBT, Lee, and Lyman IF they cast large enough to fit your rifle.

Jim,
I shoot an AK and my buddy shoots an SKS. We use a 135 grain gas checked group buy boolit. We are both using 15 grains of 2400 with good reliability and very acceptable accuracy with velocity around 1900 fps- we're both using iron sights. This load is also easy on the brass with minimal growth between loadings. No problems feeding, and the brass piles up about 6 feet away. Best to slug your barrel - we ended up using .314 boolits. We use the Lee pacesetter dies with a .303 expander, which is around .311 diameter. Also need a case belling die. Finding reasonably priced brass in 7.62x39 is a problem these days. Some of the older R-P brass uses small rifle primers - everyone else uses large rifle primers. Also, no issues for us with gas system fouling or barrel leading. Good luck!

I load 2 different boolits in my sks paratrooper. Lee TL 312-160-2r and Lee c321-185-1r. I also have been known to use Hornady 123gr J-words.Both boolits shoot great sized at .314 pushed through a Lee sizer die. I use Lee rgb dies and lube with LLA or my own homemade lube. I can push the 160's over 2000fps with outstanding accuracy and 0 leading.:Fire: As for brass, try BuffaloArms. I scored a boat load of new IMI brass from them.
