Does anyone else have a Lee 6.5mm Cruise Missile on order from Midsouth? I ordered mine about four months ago. Has anyone talked to Lee or Midsouth? I have a new-to-me M91 Carcano that hasn't been shot since it's been in my possession. This is getting frustrating!

I've had one on back order for about 5 months as well. I've talked to Midsouth a couple of times. They are waiting on Lee. No clue as to when the order will be filled, just when ever they get them they will send them out. I was given the use of a 266469 that dropped them at .269. With them I was able to hold around 1.25" @50 yrds. with 10 gr of Unique in my M91. Beyond that the fixed sights and my eyes don't do so well. In the mean time, try the "J" word sold by Hornady for the Carcano. I've had real good luck with them over H414 and a mag primer. If you want to go that rout until the Missile comes in and don't have a Hornady manual let me know I'll give you the data they have. It's different for the .268 than it is for the .264.

Lee is 6mo or more behind. I ordered a .350 push sizer die in jan and just got it last week

IIRC Midsouth waits until they have a certain number of orders then gives their order to Lee.

You are correct they do, but with this mold they have already had enough orders and are waiting on Lee.

I have had a mould on order for a few months as well. Maybe one day out of the blue it will show up. Very frustrating.

Hey, Guys, coupla' questions:
Was that 6.5 CM a GB? I just aquired a 6.5 X 55 and had no interest in casting for said caliber prior. I sure would like to get one.

do you think in this case midsouth is still accepting orders since they are waiting on lee, or would any new moulds purchased be in a second order?

thanks,

Some folks at another forum have been waiting since January for 7.63x45 czech dies from lee. The gentleman coordinating that got an email from lee saying 9-12 months on the lead time.

Yep, I've had one on BO for about 6 months now. Ditto the 2 heavy 8mm molds and the BD45. Was lucky to get one of their .22Bator molds from the last batch. Hope the wait is worth it!

Whenever I have to wait too long at Midwait, er.. I mean Midway, I just cancel and order direct from Lee. It costs a little more, but the wait is much shorter.

Ordering a single custom mold direct from Lee would cost a LOT more. They have a $100 set up fee for orders of less than 25....

every one is back ordered.all are working their fastest, they are not going to get more machinery.
this also is what happens when theres to many products they have to make in batches.you cant just set up and make one you setup to make hundreds, then change over.that may be why there are mistakes.first batch after setup may not be quite right.:coffee::veryconfu

When they finally do get enough orders to place an order, they usually order some extras to sell but they go very quick. If you want one, I'd get an order in. I already have one but have been thinking of getting another since they are so hard to come by. One would think Lee would put them in their production since they are ordered pretty regular.

Why? The way it is now they do not have to hope that it sells and they have a guaranteed profit. Wish I had a product that I was assured of selling with no danger of loss WIN -WIN for them

I sized down some 140gr. .277 cal cast bullets to .269 for my Carcano.

While you're waiting....

First time shooting the Lee 170 gr that I bought from Gardner's Cache. I've since purchased a d/c from Midsouth (last summer).

13.8 grs 2400 @ 50 yards, first load concocted:

I think this is another reason why japanese companys are killing off everyone else.If LEE was japanese they would buy the extra machines and turn out molds to keep up the supply. It is the reason thier car companys are taking over, good product when you want it.I can't believe in a major downturn in the economy that Lee is turning customers away. Been waiting for mine since October 2008. I recently found a Lyman .266 that I am going to beagle up and see how she does. I am waiting to shoot cast through my 6.5 carcano 91.

If you guys are so all fired "needy" why not get up a G/B from NOE?
There does seem to be a lot of demand for that 'boolet'.

Dutch,

Nice group, nice rifle. I shoot 100 yards...that's where the proof of the puddling is. I noticed that it appeared two or more of your bullets appeared to be tilted when hitting the target. Was your target perfecting flat up and down wise? If not they were starting to de-stabilize. To find out shoot them at 100 yards.

That's a thought. I've had my order in since sometime last summer. I check with Mid-South about every 3-4 mo.

I looked at the Midsouth site - figured I'd get in the queue for the mold.

I can't find the 6.5 (or .264 caliber) lee mold on their web site, or even on the Lee website.

Am I missing something?

you want to order a machine for 1/2 million which may sit idle in a few months.
blame the shooters for going hog wild since obama got elected. LEE make more products than all companies combined.and the price is right.
one thing with Midsouth is they will hold your whole order till the back order come in.saves you money.I waited for my order. I know whats going on and knew they are doing best they can.:coffee:[smilie=1:

Well, I just played e-mail tag with Midsouth yesterday...it's still probably gonna be a while.

Nora...do you have that Hornady J-word data handy? Looks like I'm ordering some of those bullets...

If you have a Midsouth Shooter Supply login, you can click the Email Me link under the mould and they will let you know when they come in.

I already announced it in the Molds area, but just in case someone misses it, MidSouth has the Cruise Missile mold in stock as of today. They also have the two 8MM molds. I can faintly hear a triangle ringing in the distance!! COME AND GET IT!!! :-P

NOW you bring it up after I just ordered one from Midsouth. Truth be told I would still probably get one especially if it was 268+ since I want it for a Carcano.

I just got an email from Mid South on the "Cruise Missle". They needed an new card number. That thing has been on back order so long that the card was no longer valid. My two molds are on the way at last. I was beginning to despair.

I just got a mold from Mid South and cast up a 100 or so. These are running about .272 diameter so I will size them .270 for my .266-.267 bore. What over length are you guys using for this loaded round? Do you let a 1/2" of the bullet seat below the neck?

No no no no, you shouldn't get 1/2" of the bullet below the neck. It should seat about the same as the Kurt. It was made exactly for the Swede chamber and throat. Something is the matter if it's seating that deep.

I am using the Stoneypoint OAL gage and then adding 0.025" which puts the bullet firmly in the throat but it is too large a diameter to engage the rifling.
