.35 Remington - aprox 200gr bullet @ 2000 fps

.32 WS - aprox 170gr @ 2300 fps

What would you go with for mule deer?

I am leaning towards .32 Special as I read it was designed to be used with both smokeless and black powder.

Both are equally accurate with their 16 twists. Forget the logic behind PB versus WP with these two calibers. ... felix

Which one shoots better? The 35 is more versatile IMO, the 32 easier on the pocket book and shoulder. The 32 comes in both flavors- Marlin and Win. The 35 comes in Marlin. Which one do you like better? I'd pick the 35 for game over 200 lbs, but wouldn't feel handicapped by the 32.

I have a pair of 35's and a trio of 32's at my disposal now and all are Marlin's I might add !

I personally prefer the 32 over the 35 but thats just me .

In my pair of 35's I have one of the relatively new Marlin 336XLR's and that thing is a tack driver with the Hornady rubber tipped factory ammo and would be a good 250 yard mulie rifle in my opinion . My other 35 is a limited edition Marlin 336D whish is just like a Marlin Guide Gun and drives tacks with cast bullets especially the Ranch Dog 359-190GC .

As for the 32 I have and old model Marlin 1893 , a 1936A and a 336SC and all three of these do very well with the Ranch Dog 323-170GC as well as the Lyman 321297 and the RCBS 32-170GC .

My 32's will most likely shoot the jacketed bullets well enough for 200 yards at mulies also . Although I rarely shoot jacketed bullets in a 32 .

I pick the 32 Special just because I like messing with it more then the 35 REM :drinks::drinks:

If you load the 35 rem for marlins you can get 2000+ fps with 220 gr. Buffalo bore loads do 2200fps with 220gr. That is the same thing everyone does with 45-70. Load to the pressure your gun will handle. The 35 rem factory loads are mild because of the old rem autoloaders.

I have both..and a .32-40. My vote goes to the .35 Rem./beagle

I'd go .35 Rem. Better? No. But you can get a new rifle in .35. Maybe a little easier to find stuff for, brass, bullets, used molds, etc. I don't think any deer can tell the difference!:-D

You're short changing the .35R if limiting yourself to 2000fps with a 200 grain bullet. My 24" old timers handle approx. 2100 fps very well with SAECO#352 at up to 251 grains (ready to fly) using spherical powders in the AA2520 to H380 range.

Back years ago My favoite two guns were a Savage 99 in 250-3000 and a Marlin in 35 Rem. I figured I could do anything between the two of them. Had a couple of 32 Win's over the years and could never get one to shoot well, none were new.
That said I would take the 35 Rem.

Dang, I hate these either or comparisons....

If you have one of each, the one that shoots better. How's that for an answer! The .32 is, well, it's the .32, and always will be. It's a souped 30-30. I've seen several shoot exceptionally well, hand loaded.

The .35 makes a bigger hole with a bigger boolit.

The more I think about it the more I would pick the .32 for only one reason. Brass. The world has enough 30-30 brass to last a LONG time (neck it up and voila). Other than that, if I were serious about efficiently harvesting a muley and had both, and both shot well, the .35 would get the nod. Since it's a cast boolit decision it would be a 170 vs 200 grainer (with a bigger hole). Not to say that the .32 wouldn't work if that's all you had....

This is sort of a nonsense question. Shoot a deer in the same place with either round and you will get the same results. You will either have a dead deer or a wounded deer depending on where the bullet landed.

Which one? Which ever you have or which ever one you want. The biggest concern in finding the deer and placing the bullet in the right place.

Don't forget Remington made a lot of pump 35 Remingtons and they are stronger then the Marlins. It's a darn good round, but my heart goes out for the 32 Special.

Of the two you listed.........35 remington hands down, no thought required.

That being said I must confess to being a 35 caliber nut.

The "if you could only have one gun" question pops up every now and again, and I can never truly convince myself of what one piece of iron I would pick.

Now if the question was "if you could only have one bore size"...MY answer with no thought and no regrets would be .35

.35 bores = versatility, and most are just plain easy to make shoot, cast boolits/heathen bullets whatever.............JUST PLAIN VERSATILITY ALONE IS ALL THE CAUSE I NEED TO CHOOSE .35 :drinks: and the reason my stable has more 35's than any other bore.

You can argue this for ever....there is no deer that know what killed his ###, 30/30, 32. 35,
if you ae a rifleman you place your shot to kill. Minute of deer don't work with any of these , they all kill deer DRT when placed correctly. You can gut shoot them with a .50 and they will run off...know your rifle and enjoy shooting it.

Oh lord, I hate to do this. Okay Joe, why is the Remington 14/141 series stronger than the Marlin?

Bret, I was gonna leave this alone but since you asked and Joe didn't answer........ They're not. But Remington did chamber the 760 in 35 Rem. also and it is. Leaving now. Regards, Woody

I have hunted Mulies for years, The 30-30- was good and is good for deer but in my experience the 30 cal bullet starts to run out of steam around 175 yards.

The 35 rem ,with its heavier 200 grain seems to punch better at 200 yards
