I just got a call from a local recycler telling me that he got a 50,000-pound load of what he's calling "shot." I don't think it's reclaimed shot, but some kind of ballast. He's wanting .50 per pound.

I don't know the composition. I was just wondering what some of you were seeing around the country in regards to WW and scrap lead prices. They seem to be creeping up lately.
Thanks,
Jay

If he is selling at that price I believe that is good. Around here the prevaling price is about a buck a pound from what I can tell.
A few years ago the trap & skeet fields were reclaimed. All the shot went to the west coast for ballast.

Their's a link to prices. LTL = less than truck load. TL is truck load price.
Remember that's delivered price.

I paid $0.50/lb for 5,000 lbs of recovered lead shot a few months ago. The spot price on new lead was just over $0.40 back then. It was close to double that when I looked a week or two ago, so I would call the offer you have a good deal if the material is all lead & doesn't have a bunch of crud mixed in.

keep in mind the difference between what the metal recyclings will sell you lead for versus what they pay for the same product. I called our local metal recycler about a year ago and found out that they were selling lead for around .10 and would buy it for .03 cents per lb. The local tire shop was happy to sell me their lead for $15 a bucket. They were happy to sell it to me to avoid the hassle of hauling it to the recyclers. I went back last week and the price was now $25 per bucket based on increased local demand - unfortunately some local artist is making scultpures out of lead.
