Anyone have a great (good) load. I would like to use a 158gr SWC.

Thas one rare caliber. I think I've seen data for it, but it was years ago, and I can't remember where. No help, I know. Sorry

Tell you what. That's a toughie, but the 38 special is just about the same exact length, they are as close as can get in diameters (not exact) and the 38 special is of lower pressure, and there are tons of loads out there for 158 grain cast for the 38 special....sooooo my advice is to use 38 special cast data loads.

Problem is that the gun is an Automag, needs a fairly hot load to function. Best I've tried so far is 12.5gr Accurate #9. I think that 2400 would be good, but hate to try unpublished loads. Especially in a gun you can't get parts for!

So, the 38 special loads are starting load....then compare the 38 special loads with the cast loads for the 357 mag. Perhaps start with the lowest 357 load for the 158 grain cast bullet. Come, I'm trying to help you here, think a little. You could even take the top 38 special load and load one or two and try them. That will give you an excellent idea where they stand. If they don't cycle it you know what to do, increase the load. If the 38 loads are so anemic try one or two low loads for the 357 mag. That 9mm mag runs pretty hot, I'll bet the 357 mag and it are close in pressure.

Try 38 Super loads.

Try 38 Super loads.

A 38 Super is about as long as a 9x23 mm. The 9mm Win Mag is nearly 29mm long....big difference. For that matter 9mm Largo would apply, but I think both those are wrong loads. The +P+ 38 Special loads would probably work as would the 357 loads. I'd try the 38 loads. Worse that would happen is it didn't cycle the slide.

Hmm, got some new brass somewhere, for that caliber. Thought about building an upper for an AR15, in that caliber. Still might.

Okay, I found some loads, but they are jacketed. First I want to point out some things to you. In inches the 9mm mag is 1.160 long. The 38 special is 1.155 long. So you see how close they are?

A 125 jacketed bullet has a load of 8.5 grains Unique.
A 115 jacketed bullet has a load of 7.0 grains of Herco.

I still hold to my opinion that 38 special loads for the 158 gr SWC lead are good to start with.

Hello their,
Nice gun you got, want to sell it? If you ever do let me know.

As far as loads go I think you will need to use jacketed or round nose for it is a semiauto and you might have cycling problems with wad cutters.

....but he also won't know until he tries them. Look at what the 1911 Colt will feed without alteration. I have an unaltered Luger feeding different bullet styles.

I checked, and sure enough .357 mag pressures are right in the ballpark.

I shoot nothing but SWC's in my Glocks and 1911's, so that wont be a problem. You just have to adjust seating depth to get reliable feeding.
