I took a gander at Pat's site and looked at what they had to say about these two powders but with very little info?

I am looking to use a powder for Cast Load for .357 and .44 Mag.

My Current Powder is W-296 and H-110.

So any thoughts on these two powders? :castmine:

WC-820 has come in at least three burning rates. Since it is surplus powder, you won't know until you get it. However, if you buy a LARGE lot, it pays to work it out. I have not heard of any of it faster than AA#9. So, on a particular day, I set the standard with H110 or Win 296 and a chronograph. Then, start with #9 data and load until you get the same velocity as your lot of H110 or Win 296 gives. As a for instance, my WC - 820 is a slow lot - with in ½ gr of H110. So, when using that particular cartridge, I can safely load and obtain the ballistics that I need.

Remember, you must work it up for each different caliber that you load. After that, it's clear sailing.

Thank You Dale53 But I would like some information as to why they talk about WC-297 and WC-820 the same way? Is one a bit faster than the other?
And they are also the Same price.

And will these surplus powders shoot as well as the more fancy powder such as the H-110 and W-296?

If I do order I would get 2 to 4 8 pound jugs. :)

I have loads of experience with WC-820 and NONE with WC-297.

Sorry, I can't help you with WC-297.

Ive used both a lot, probably use more 820 then any other powder. 820 burns about the same as aa9 and probably is just that. 297 is definately slower. Just a tad slower then 110 but not much. You can basically use 110 data for it. Both are excellent powders and i use them because there very accurate not because there cheap. Both need mag primers to light off right. I about exclusively use cci 350s with both of them. Both do there best when loaded to high pressure. For reduced loads something like 2400 is much better.
