OK so it turns out I have about 900 CCI209M primers and I have been trying to find load data for slugs and buckshot using these primers and not having much luck, Any one know of a good source or perhaps some pet loads?

powders on hand are as follows
red dot
blue dot
2400
shells and wads I can get as needed

Thanks
Rick

One thing I like about Sapp's Reloading for Shotgunners is that is separates loads by primers as well as by hull. My copy is a bit out of date (2001), but it still has tons on loads using CCI primers. The slug section, which is sparse like all shotgun manuals I've seen, IIRC doesn't use any of the powders you list except for Blue Dot. Later tonight when I can access my load books, I'll post any loads I can find.

Depending on the slug you are using, you could always substitute shotshell load data if you wanted to. What slugs do you load and how much do they weigh?

I'll be toying with lee 7/8th and 1oz as well as the lyman 525 will be getting a few lbs of each pretty soon so I can decide on which I like

I consulted Lyman’s 4th edition Shotshell Reloading Handbook, Traister’s Complete Rloading Guide, Sapp’s Reloading for Shotgunners, the Alliant online Reloader’s guide, and Lee’s Slug mold data.

Under the slug sections and the buckshot sections of the all of the sources consulted I could find not one load that used a combination of CCI 209M primers and the three powders you listed. Sapp’s slug section is the most comprehensive yet there was nothing there. Sapp’s buckshot load data contains 14 pages of loads, none with your components. Nor does Lyman nor Traister.

Here is where you can go to look at Lee’s recommended load data for their slugs:
http://www.leeprecision.com/cgi-data/instruct/SM3529.pdf

You can look up you own shot loads here (7/8 and 1 oz for Lee slugs) selecting the primer type, and powder type:
http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/RecipeList.aspx?gauge=12&gtypeid=3

First let me say that I have loaded only several hundred slugs, and am pretty much a novice shotshell reloader, and am in no way qualified to make any recommendations for you. However, I have used 1oz shot loads for Lee 1oz slugs with pretty decent results. You must only do what you are comfortable with. Other than the shot loads listed below you are pretty much out of luck, as far as as my books go. Perhaps the more experienced reloaders can explain why your combinations of powders and primers don’t mix.

In Sapp I found these shot loads for 1oz of shot:
Winchester Polyformed Hulls(separate plastic basewad)
1 oz. shot loads
CCI 209M…21.0 grains Red Dot… WAA1212F1…1290fps…8,400psi [Please note correction made]

Winchester AA Compression formed Hulls
CCI 209M…18.5 grains Red Dot… WAA12…1290fps…10,400psi
CCI 209M…17.5 grains Red Dot… WAA12…1200fps…9,900psi

Remington Unibody Hull(integral basewad)
CCI 209M…20.0 grains Red Dot… Rem12L…1290fps…10,600psi

Remington STS, Nitro, or Gun Club
CCI 209M…17.5 grains Red Dot… Rem Fig. 8…1200fps…8,900psi
CCI 209M…20.0 grains Red Dot… Rem12L…1290fps…10,300psi

Federal Gold Medal
CCI 209M…21.0 grains Red Dot… Fed12S3…1290fps…8,700psi
CCI 209M…18.5 grains Red Dot… Pat.Ctrl. Prpl…1200fps…6,600psi

FWIW:
There are literally dozens and dozens of 1 1/8 oz loads listed for your primers and either Blue Dot or Red Dot.

BTW...I started like you did by buying hundreds of slugs online. I just recently found out that it is much more fun to cast your own!
Happy loading...

wow man thanks for the info I actually didnt think to look the shot charges of the same weight but I guess that makes sense. I've been doing rifle and pistol for quite a while but never shot shell

Also I definitly plan to cast my own slugs just waiting to figure out which one I like best. I also have a copy of Sapps ordered now as well.

Thanks for all the info

23 grains is a whole lot of RedDot. I'd approach that load very very carefully.

Jsizemore, you are correct! and I am embarrassed. I extend my most humble apologies. I rechecked the data, and the load should read 21.0 grains of red dot (it was 23 grains of green dot above it).

The other loads are right on though.

I am sorry for this mistake. I tried to be thorough and careful, and just... well......wasn't .

I have edited the load above.

Glad you caught this.

This works for me. Win AA hull Fed 209a 24 gr Herco Win WAA12F114 ( 525 lyman slug) Fed Gold Metal hull Fed 209a 30 gr Herco WinWAA12F114 (525 lyman slug) IMOP CCI 209M are to hot. Unless you hunt in the very cold. I have found med speed powders work best with slugs.
