OK I found a boolit and load that shoots into an inch or thereabouts at a hundred yards in my 308 Savage. It's a 180gr flat point gas check sized to 3095 and lubed with 50/50 alox beeswax (Javalina). Using 17grs of old 2400 and a winchester LR primer it really lays them in there nicely.

Today I took a few of the rounds out on the patio and set up my Chrony expecting around twelve hundred fps or thereabouts.

Surprise!

1. 1728
2. 1709
3. 1698
4. 1721
5. 1718

I'm very happy with this load.

temp was 89* f
Chrony was set up fifteen feet from the muzzle

Congrats Mpmarty!!!

Any cast load that will do that gets my vote. Your velocity spread seem a little high, but still not bad especially with the results you got. Now if you can reproduce those results then you'll be in boolit heaven. Just cast a ton or so of them.....so you can really give it a through test :-D

I haven't been as lucky, good for you.

I have changed the average velocity of a load just by tightening my grip on the rifle, so I don't worry about a bit of spread if the accuracy is there.

Sounds like you have found a good, usable load for your rifle. Congrats!

Very good! What brand of mould? Alloy?

The alloy is about 90% WW and 10% monotype air cooled from a Lee two cavity mold.
I went after the mold with valve lapping fine compound and it now drops nice .310 boolits by just opening the handles. Casting temp is right at 700*
