I know the info is here but I just don't have the time to sift through it all. A guy gave me a small chunk of babbit. Can it be use? Mixed? What is the hardness? Melting temp? Any and all info welcome. TIA1 Have a great 4th.

willie, impossible to answer your question with so little info. There are many, many different alloys of babbit and what you have is a complete unknown. Check out this page to give you an idea of the many different alloys that are babbit. Once on the page click on "Grades of Lead".

Cast bullet alloys (http://www.lasc.us/CastBulletAlloy.htm)

As general answer to your question, sure you can use it or mix it but as to its BHN it depends on what it is. Melting temp could give a clue as to alloy but it will probably be in the low 500F range.

Hope this helps and welcome to the forum.
