I am going to start testing my 180 grain Mountain Mold boolit with Lil' Gun in my Marlin. Hodgen shows 15 grains as the max, but I see people use 16+. I am looking for a load to use for hog and deer.

What kind of loads are you using and have you found a benefit to using magnum primers with Lil' Gun?

I put a picture of my boolit below. It is a 180 grain with a 73% meplat with a .325 nose. It will only work if you do the carrier mod. I have had some pretty good results with 13.5 of 296 at 50 yards, but was looking for a little more umph. I haven't chono'd the 296 load yet.

Thanks,

I load 14.9 grains under the Lee group buy boolit with no issue, but that same load shows big time pressure sign in slughammer's rifle. I have used both magnum and standard primers under the 14.9 load and didn't see any difference on target, but I didn't chronograph them. From that limited test I did a while back using your boolit, I think Lil Gun has some real potential for you!

I am going to follow this thread with interest. I use Lilgun in my 44 Marlin with a RD 265, just recently aquired a 180 grain RD mold.

Send me an email with your info again. I'll send you some of my new 160 grain target boolit I am working with now. It has a 50% meplat and the plan is to use it for 100yard pistol cartridge silhouette.

I'm working on Unique and Herco loads for it right now. It seems like a lot of the other powders weren't giving me what I am looking for. I am trying to get a standard load that will work good in my 586 revolver and my Marlin at the same time. I know I'm not asking for much, but that is my holy grail at the moment.

I have "read" that 2400 is a good choice for 357 rifle.

I've loaded 44 Mag with lil'gun but never 357. The early Hodgdon data (annual magazine) showed pressure data that "looked" a little odd. The 357 loads showed higher velocity than 110 but with substantially less pressure.

I'd be very interested in your results, my 26" Marlin needs a good heavy load.

My 20" rossi throws the C358180RF GB boolit at right at 1800fps over 16gr LilGun.

Don't see pressure sign at all.

I might work up to about 14.5 grs. of 2400. That always worked well for me in both revolvers, and rifles with boolits of about that weight. I have used it with 158 jacketed bullets too with great accuracy. I have used LilGun in the .357, but think it works better with heavier boolits like the 180's.

I'd been loading 2400, AA9,and 4227 for forever in magnum handgun cartridges, and carbines, and have just now started to "play" with Lil Gun. I have already loaded some j word bullets for my 1894c. They shoot very well, I haven't chronoe'd them yet. I'll be following this .:drinks:

Email sent!:)

I can either try to duplicate your loads to see how they perform in my gear, or I can try something new. Let me know.

I haven't gone that high on 2400 yet, but 13.5 of 296 worked pretty good.
