Factory ammo for this thing kills the shoulder and the wallet. Whats a reduced load thats safe for this beast?

Suggest you get a Lyman manual for starters, then start with any of the heavier hand gun cast blts. Would suggest 160s as a starting point, with 180s probably being about right overall. Probably go with gas check blts, and either Unique or 2400, as a starter. Ought to be able to find something that will run between 1200-15,16 hundred that will satisfy you.

Depends upon how fast (or slow) you wanna go.

Powders like 4895 can certainly be reduced for very good results. However, being somewhat cheap, and liking to economize a little, 2400, 5744, 4227 and SR 4759 all work for me with lighter powder charges.

Using 31-33 grains 4759 (NOT 4756) and a 200 Core-Lokt RN duplicates 35 Remington factory loads and would kill deer well.

Somewhat less, down to 18 grains or so, works better with lead bullets. Any of the mentioned powders get "good enough" speeds for practice or even deer hunting with a suitable bullet.

Yeah, with full power loads of a 250 at 2500 fps it does thump a bit.

Try an RCBS 35-180FN sized at least .359 and around 13.0 Red Dot or 16.0 2400. The 350 may need a little more powder than the 35 Whelen, but that combo works fine in my 35 W.

Here's a ten shot group fired last year using 26 grains of WC-820 with SAECO 356. The range was 75 yards and the velocity, just under 1900 fps.
