Well I have never used a filler before so, after reading an article about toilet paper as a filler I thought why not?

Here is what I found. I had 20 rds loaded with 19 gr of 4227 under my 314299 bullets sized .313.

At 50 yards without filler five shot group was group 3.96". Avg Veloicty over the Chrono 1536 fps SD 9

At 50 yards with filler group five shot group was .799". Avg Velocity over the Chrono 1625 fps SD 14

Armed with confidence I then took 10 rds of my "Filler" load and at 75 yards shot 2.973" group. This is the best I have ever shot this gun.

All targets shot with the issue micrometer sights and old eyes. Very happy with results. I was surprised at the velocity increase just by using filler. I am going to play with some more loads using 4227 and TP as a filler.

So back to the bench and will test out my K 31 to see how it manages along with my 30-30 Win.

ps I just have to get a scope mount for this gun and see how it really shoots.

Welcome to the world of fillers. Just a note from experience regarding the use of TP as a filler, particularly this time of year and later into the summer and fall; just make sure your not wearing thin soled shoes or tenny runners;-)

guess used would work if you shoot the crap out of it.

Yap you've found that 4227 is position sensitive as is most of the other good for cast powders.

You should write Sheryl Crow and tell her that you're using less than 1 sheet at a time........ for loading bullets. lol

If you don't know the back story on that, she was quoted as saying to use one piece of TP per "episode" to help save the planet.

Remind me not to ever shake hands with her...

For her to say that is proof of never having done it. BvT

I had a rifle I couldn't get on paper at 25y. I tried drier lint by someones advice and I was shooting 1" or less at 25y. I don't remember the powder I used off hand but the change was mind blowing to go from what I thought was a worthless *** gun to a shooter. I'm sure this isn't going to help in all cases but it made a believer out of me. Buy the way the mentiond rifle had a slightly oversized bore.

if you fold that square over by quarters it makes a nice dime sized piece thick enough to do the job at hand. you'll keep dropping them and use 25 times as much, but your trying to do your part.

While toilet paper filler may work, (and I have used it in time past) I believe you'll eventually come to realize the same effect may be had with a tuft of 0.5-0.75 gr of dacron over the powder, without the folding required for the toilet paper.:Fire:

All I have been doing is taking a 1" square and tamping it down over the powder like a wad. I don't fill the remaing case with TP. Seems to work OK.
