I just picked up 100 lbs of this alloy real cheap and I believe the larger ones on the right are linotype but the other square ones are a mystery for me. They almost look like straight tin and their marked NEY with lot numbers on the back if that helps. None can be scratched with my fingernail and it all seems real hard. Heres some pics and any info would be appreciated.
PS- I paid only .10 per pound.LOL.

Looks to be plumbers lead the square ingots

The stuff I have like that is either pure lead or real close
As it is dead soft

Do a search ( if Search is working ) for plumbers lead

Lots of other pic's of ingots like yours

Stuff with TYPE on it might be Lino

An easy test for linotype is to prop up one end of the ingot and then smack it with a hammer. Linotype is brittle and the ingot will break in half.

I have square ingots in the same shape you have. The printing on them is different but has some detail like yours. I have babbit from Jackson Wheeler in Brooklyn, NY. I have TUFTEX with a 4 on some of the ingots. I don't know if lead would have detailed printing like you are showing. I gave an ingot to someone. I split it off the strip by placing the strip in a vise with one squre extended. One hit with a hammer and it broke easily. Try it. If you have another ingot which you know is lead, bang the two ingots together on their edges. The lead will get a notch in it and the babbit will keep its shape.

When you drop it, does it clank or clunk?

Babbit and lino will clank, maybe ring a little. Lead goes 'thump'.

OK, I found out who makes this stuff and its NEY alloys in N.Y.C and its sold by Midway and its real expensive($129.99 per 30lbs). It can be 4 different alloys and im calling them today to run the lot numbers. It can be a 1/10, 1/20, 1/30, Pure tin or their Hardball mix. They also offer Lino and soft but this stuff is all real ahrd and rings when you hit them together. I guess I lucked out on this one and the guy said he has more so im gonna buy it all to stock up plus the price is great at 10 cents per pound.:-D

You have more than 4 options with NEY, they do some custom alloying and the line includes anything from pure lead to pewters.

Out of curiosity, what did you find out when you phoned them?
