Passed away last week. Cancer took him at the age of 84. He was satisfied with the number of good years he'd had and he used the last one to put his affairs in order.
Bob was the favorite uncle since I was old enough to climb onto his lap. My parents wondered if he would ever run out of stories for all of his nieces and nephews. I'm glad he didn't. I sure learned a lot from him.
As soon as I was old enough he taught me to shoot and hunt. I think I was 14 when I stripped his Model 8 Remington and reassembled it -correctly!- without any instructions. He didn't get angry (as near as I could tell). I was just a bored teenager and no harm had been done. After that he kept me busy by teaching me how to fix almost anything.
We don't realize how much we owe someone until they're gone.

Sorry to hear about your uncle .

Ditto for me. It sounds as if he was one of the "Good guys".

Sorry to hear of your loss, JSnover. May your Uncle rest in peace, secure in the knowledge that he made a difference in at least one young life (and from your description of him, probably many more!)

Indeed, a loss that deserved mention and remembrance.

Does not sound like he is gone. Sounds like he lives on with you in your heart and soul!
