Has anyone ever broke the bottom edge of the barrel to keep the nose of the boolit from hanging up? It would kind of being like a small ramp on a pistol barrel.

What do you think? Anyone done this? What did you use to do it?

That should be absolutely unnecessary for a properly timed/operating gun...

All your cases would be bulgded out. Too much a cut and they would be prone to blow outs. Nobody credible does it. At least I've never heard of it being done.

Basically, all I was thinking about is breaking the edge, not doing a big ramp.

craig your carrier should lift your boolit high enough to aim it into the bbl.
if it aint you either need a longer o.a.l. or a new spring in the carrier latch.

My 357 Marlin had a very sharp edge that would scrap copper off when I loaded it. I brock the edge with a round file and have not had a problem since.

Like Nick, a M1895 winchester that I had relined gave problems until I put a slight radius on the chamber mouth. Cases do not bulge but cartridges chamber now.

They all should have the sharp edge broken just a very little needs to be taken off.

Yep, a very slight radius is appropriate, but a ramp is not. A good explanation why is an 1895. Dan doesn't say what cal. his is, but if it was for a bottle-neck crtrdg. like 30-06 or 30-40, and it's shaving copper and brass, it has a burr or knife-edge corner from breachface to chamber.

However those who pointed out ramping is bad are equally correct. the lifter should be adjusted to correctly point the round at the chamber fairly closely. (At least enough to not cause jams.) Small adjustments can also be made so longer OAL cartridges will feed in pistol-cal. lever-guns, too.
